Nestle - Global Strategy Case - 1650 Words

1.What is the company’s strategy with regard to business development in emerging markets? Does this strategy make sense? From the NESTLE : GLOBAL STRATEGY case, it can be seen that Nestle generally operates worldwide with the strategy of customization rather than globalization. It moves into consumer markets by using Niche market strategy to become the market leader in each of the niches. It mainly focuses on European markets, which make up 70 percent of its sales. As mentioned, these markets are in the mature state of the life cycle of that industry and also demographic changes such as the stagnation of population growth rate and slight decline in the food consumption have made it very challenging for companies like Nestle to generate†¦show more content†¦This is due to the fact that Nestle’s strategy is based on a broad range of local brand names which are not entitled as â€Å"Nestle†. The company uses this approach in order to reach the consumers easily as they are accustomed to those local brand names and they think they know what they are buying. Consequently, marketing is easier and less costly because a brand image, a distribution channel and customer loyalty already exists for that locally acclaimed product. As a result Nestle can focus its distinctive competencies on product improvement and technological aspects such as process innovation. Lastly, the key to Nestle’s success is customization rather than globalization. This has ensured its success so far. An example is Nestle’s success in the Chinese milk powder market. There was hardly any infrastructure, transportation system or product distribution channel in 1987 when the company entered the market. Nevertheless, Nestle increased the output of powdered milk from 316 tons in 1990 to 10,000 tons in 1994. These figures show the success of their flexible strategy by scanning the environment where they operate. Combining all these factors makes Nestle’s strategy a sensible and successful one. 2.How would you describe Nestlà ©Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s strategic posture at the corporate level; is it pursuing a global strategy, a multidomestic strategy, an international strategy, or a transnational strategy? The True Meaning Of Reading Is Not A Disinterested...

For many years authorial intention was recognised as the only true meaning of a text. A philosopher in the twentieth century, Edmund Hursell, recognised the power of consciousness and the phenomenal reality of an appearance which defers questions about an ultimate end. Phenomenology notes an objects existence, but achieves meaning and finds reality through an active conscious and awareness which registers the object, suspending all presuppositions, inferences, or judgements. A text, when criticised phenomenologically, is seen in aesthetic and affective aspects, existing only in the reader. Scholar Stanley Fish extended these ideas into what is now called Reader-Response Criticism, or R-RC discussing the influence the reader has on the interpretation, making â€Å"reading an active activity† (Cowgill 5). This essay will discuss the idea that reading is not a disinterested activity by applying new critic ideals to enforce upon the notion that meaning is drawn from the readers o wn interpretations, shaped by their active engagement with the text.. More recently, in 2003, Lisa Zunshine further developed the importance of the reader in textual meaning by drawing from cognitive psychology in her article ‘Theory of the Mind’. Zunshine suggests that such an activity is the basis for the very existence of the novel as we know it; the reason we read fiction is because it exercises our mind-reading ability (Polvinen). Internal strength in the college expense reimbursement process As according to the case Queensland Agriculture College /head has official statements of policies and procedures for staffs expense reimbursement. Expense reports must be signed /approved by head and finance authority. Approved expense report of staff reimbursement and cash advance forms makes easy to record all authorized transactions. Expense reimbursement checks are issued by head of department.(duly signed authority) Expense reimbursement are made only after receipt of approved expense report and cash advance approval form for anticipated expenses. Internal audit reconciles the expense reimbursements. College has made a proper hierarchy to signed the reimbursement of expenses and further it is checked and signed by financial department of college. All the transactions are recorded and receipts of cash payments are with finance office , in case any issue arise in future they can check it from the records. There is well detailed procedure to receive cash advances for anticipated expenses. Staff has to complete and get approved a cash advance approval form, it further goes to accounting department for verification , so there is two way verification of every expenses(Rausch 2015). Internal Audit compares expense reimbursement checks with expense report from each departments net amount to the total of the expense reimbursement issues to staff. Auditing of reimbursements makes sure that college policies and rules are being followed properly and reimbursements are being checked closely time to time(Steinbart B 2014). There is a sense of insecurity with data as data is somewhere on the internet because its a online business accounting software and data is saved online somewhere on data, so hackers always have chance to attack the online data. Weaknesses in internal expense reimbursement process There is no limit on the staffs total fortnights expenditures or cash advances. Expense reimbursement checks are sent to the college head for the distribution rather than to the cashier. The head of the college doesnt keep a copy of expense report and other cash advances for auditing purposes. Before approving the expense advance expenditures he should discuss it with finance department of the college so that he can get the in-depth view of expenses, and he understands well that there is no space for fraud. There should be a well establishes relationship between finance department, accounts department , head and cashier so that they can co work properly and handle the things smartly. The expense report is not checked for mathematical accuracy. So there may be chance if someone could try to make a fraud and make wrong or more entries in the form. A copy of the Cash Advance Approval form should be sent to the college Cashier so it can compare it with the one submitted by the staff(Hall 2011). If in case some member offended and violating college rules, they made for expense reimbursements, they should be punished, so that in future staff members should be aware that college is strict about its policies. There is no reconciliation of college Cashier disbursements with Cash Advance Approval form. They did not mention what kind of documents are required to attach with expense form , there should be original documents to be attached(Samuel 2013). Peculiarities of Chinese Aspect within the Process of Preservation of the Environment

Today, the world faces with a number of problems of the environment that should be solved by the way of cooperation of the countries and the use of the new green technologies. China as one of the most valuable players of the world politics demonstrates a high level of increase of the economics and industries.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Peculiarities of Chinese Aspect within the Process of Preservation of the Environment specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More As the result, today, China has numerous ecological problems such as water and air pollution and greenhouse gases. Therefore, the problematic relationship between humans and the environment in China can be defined from the position of the water and air pollutions as the result of the industrial development of the country. The present issue had been studied carefully during the past century. Today, the environmental problems need more strict solutions; besides, it is highly important to provide the immediate measures and to improve the existent laws. In order to improve the problem of pollutions of the environment in China, analyzing the cultural background and impact of the economical situation on the environment, the government should develop such measures as the law which can convince companies to reduce the emissions and the domestic programs, including the bonuses which can motivate the industries to use more safe facilities. As the problem of environmental pollution is strong, it is highly important to develop the measures that could reduce the level of emissions. The researchers indicate such measure and emphasize an importance of the use of the modern facilities and providing the new laws that can help to preserve the environment. Besides, it is necessary to notice that the Chinese government should provide the domestic programs in order to reduce the emissions as well as cooperate with the international partners in order to develop the new common world solutions and to improve the present programs. Thus, in 2007, the State Environmental Protection Administration planned to replace 200 factories with clean facilities and to address efforts to the environmental preservation (â€Å"The World’s Worst Polluted Places† 6). On the one hand, highly developed economic helps developing financial position of the country, however, on the other hand, this process causes the large negative effects on the environment that affect not only China, but the whole world.Advertising Looking for research paper on ecology? Although the both sides take into consideration the current problems and try to provide the initiatives, in fact, the problem of the air and water pollutions is not solved yet and it is impossible t o predict when the positive changes will happen. Thesis statement. In order to improve the problem of pollutions of the environment in China, analyzing the cultural background and impact of the economical situation on the environment, the present research paper suggest such measures as the law which can convince companies to reduce the emissions and the domestic programs, including the bonuses which can motivate the industries to use more safe facilities. The measures provided by the Chinese government help improving the process of preservation of the environment; however, it is necessary to develop more consistent and diligent solutions within the Chinese studies taking into consideration the economical, cultural and social characteristics of China. The government should develop the law which can convince companies to reduce the emissions and the domestic programs, including the bonuses which can motivate the industries to use more safe facilities. Background of present research pa per is based on the works of different researchers that help to understand the problem of preservation of the environment. Thus, R. Bryce says about â€Å"energy independence† as the key moment of development of different countries. For instance, he provides an example of the United States that is â€Å"married to fossil fuels† (Bryce 305). China as a country based on the use of the fossil fuels also can be considered as an example of energy independent economics. S. Carrell cites words of Al Gore who indicates that the reason of the environmental problems in China can be found in the overwhelming carbon emissions (â€Å"Al Gore: Clean proof that climate change causes extreme weather†). According to the statistics of the Blacksmith Institute, China is one of the countries with the most polluted environment caused by the unregulated work of the industries (â€Å"The World’s Worst Polluted Places†, Lee and Wauchope). Air pollution leads to high risk of respiratory and skin diseases and cancer.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Peculiarities of Chinese Aspect within the Process of Preservation of the Environment specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Thus, according to statistics of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning published in 2003, over â€Å"300,000 people die each year from ambient air pollution, mostly of hearth diseases and cancer† (Kahn and Yardley). The World Bank indicates that the total death range now is reached 750,000 people a year (Kahn and Yardley). In the article As China Roars, Pollution Reaches Deadly Extremes, the authors emphasize the lack of understanding of the environmental problems by the Chinese government. Although every country in its history goes through this problem as the result of the economical and industrial growth, â€Å"but just as the speed and scale of China’s rise as an economic power have no clear parallel in history, so its pollution problem has shattered all precedents† (Kahn and Yardley). The authors say about the increase of a number of the health problems in country such as cancer, heart diseases, skin diseases and the different poisonings. Obviously, the level of diseases is directly dependent on the air and water pollutions. Moreover, the pollutions impact quality of the food products and this fact also leads to the health problems. The authors analyze the work of the Communist Party in China and its capability to manage the current problems within the modern process and particularly its measures taken before the Olympic Games that took place in Beijing in 2008. A number of companies had to close illegal coal mines and reduce the level of polluting gases. However, the problem of the air pollution was not solved and the numerous athletes and visitors of the Olympic Games mentioned that the air in Beijing was badly cleaned. In the article Green Giant: Beijin g’s crash program for clean energy, Osnos says about the green programs of the country developed in order to reduce the emissions and to increase the use of technologies that preserve the environment. However, the Chinese programs do not demonstrate the positive effects.Advertising Looking for research paper on ecology? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More It would be incorrect to say about the otioseness of those measures, nevertheless, it is too early to announce about the positive change. Osnos provides the information about the program called Goldwind Science and technology Company which is part of the 863 Program that â€Å"operates a plant and a laboratory in a cluster of high-tech companies in an outlying district of Beijing† (â€Å"Green Giant: Beijing’s crash program for clean energy†). This program is created in order to develop so-called E-Town in the Chinese capital and to provide more effective protecting measures. Taking into consideration methods of preservation suggested by T. Friedman, it is possible to develop the solutions of improvement of the current situation. One of the major steps is to make people â€Å"to be aware of the energy-climate problems† (Friedman 292). Lemonick analyses the climate models and reflects about the workable solutions, for instance, the ways of reduction of CO2 emissions (287). Such ideas help understanding the measures that can be helpful regarding to the current situation in China.
